So I have had this particular sweater for many years now. Eventually, the sleeves shrunk up, as happens to all of my tops eventually. I honestly think my arms are still growing (BTW – if you need anything off the top shelf, let me know).
I had really liked this sweater, and it was still in good shape. I’ve been trying to think of something to make out of it. Pillow, handbag, something. So the other day I happened upon this Sweater Ball Wreath at The Everyday Home and was inspired. While my sweater wreath is much simpler, I still get a cozy feeling when I look at it. Plus I’m sure you could jazz it up with some ornaments, pine cones and a glue gun.
First, I gathered my supplies. The sweater, a foam wreath, a ball of cotton twine, a pair of scissors, and a needle…
Next, I cut off the sleeves along the seams…
Then I attached the sleeve around the wreath and began stitching it back up…
I continued all the way to the end of the first sleeve, then did the same with the second. I tucked the unfinished ends under the cuffs.
Next up, the bow! Since this was a turtle neck sweater, I cut off the turtleneck…
gathered it at the middle and stitched it up!
I attached it to the wreath with some ribbon (I think I am going with a blue and white palette this year), added another length of ribbon to hang it from, and voila!
It is a cute, thrifty (less than $5!) and cozy addition to our holiday decorations!
Now I just need a plan for the rest of the sweater. Ideas? Anyone?
